The Microfit File saagmf2.fit contains macroeconomic data for South Africa, together with some data on the manufacturing sector.

  1. Use this data to replicate the estimation results for the Feder-Ram growth model in Batchelor, Dunne and Saal (1999) Military Spending and Economic Growth in South Africa", Economics Discussion Paper No. 62, Middlesex University Business School, February.
  2. Estimate a Cobb Douglas production function and use this to test for any significant effect of military spending on economics growth.
  3. Consider whether any other forms of production function might be usefully used for the same purpose.
